Occasionally, someone will come up with a new (and usually foolproof) method for coin restoration, whether dipping the coins in ketchup or vinegar or Coca-Cola. What these methods usually involve is dipping the coin in a very weak acid to restore the surface. I recommend filtering for volume. Check out the eBay sellers who have done several hundred gold sales or more. These are the gold bullion sellers you can trust assuming they also have a high positive feedback score. Volume indicates that they have been in the business for a while and must be doing something right. You will always end up paying a premium when you buy from a high volume seller. It's always worth it. Let's take a simple example. You buy a 1/10 ounce gold bullion American Eagle from a new seller. You get a super deal and only pay $100. Now, let's say you buy the same coin but pay $120 from a power seller. Let's say the first one ends up to be a fake and the second is real. You pay an extra $20 but isn't that better than getting something worth $0 with your hard earned investment dollars? I always go with the high volume sellers.

Old U.S. Federal Reserve Notes, 1928, 1934, 1950, 1963, etc. Most circulated Federal Reserve Notes from more modern series are worth no more than face value. Some of the early series notes (1928 and 1934) do carry a small premium, although for circulated notes this premium is small, usually 10% to 30%. Premiums are higher as a percentage of face value for lower denomination notes, such as $5 and $10 bills, as opposed to the higher denomination $20s, $50s, and $100s.
